🤘🏿 hey there!

Joshua Kimmich is all set to break records as he gears up for his 100th international game, playing against Portugal in the Nations League semi-final in Munich on Wednesday. This talented German footballer is just one step away from tying the record held by Lothar Matthäus, who played 150 times for the national team.

Matthäus, a 1990 World Cup winner and a 150-time footballer, believes Kimmich has what it takes to surpass his record. "If anyone can catch me, it's Joshua. I stand by that. He's young, rarely injured, and very ambitious. If he keeps going, he could reach 170 appearances," he told Bild.

Matthäus even expressed his excitement for Kimmich, stating, "I'd be happy for him if he ever breaks my record of 150 caps." The 64-year-old football legend shared his thoughts on Kimmich's position in a Sky column about the current team captain.

When it comes to Kimmich's preferred position, Matthäus is a firm believer that he truly shines in the center of the midfield. "Kimmich is world-class as a right-back and in midfield. I find him most important in the center, where he sets the rhythm of the game. As a right-back, he's not as involved in the build-up," he said.

However, given that Julian Nagelsmann doesn't have another player fitting Kimmich's profile for the right-back position, Matthäus acknowledged that Kimmich might have to continue playing as a right-back for now. Despite this, he didn't see a better solution that convinces him either.

So here's to Joshua Kimmich, breaking records and setting the pace for future generations of German footballers! 🤘🏿
