Breaking Lothar's Record: Kimmich's Ascendancy in the German National Team

Matthias reveals the national record to Kimmich - and additional secrets

Munich - Legendary footballer Lothar Matthäus confidently believes Joshua Kimmich has the potential to surpass his record of appearances for the German national team. "Folks, let me tell ya, if there's anyone who can catch my record, it's Joshua. And I ain't backing down from that. He's still got years on him, he's hardly ever injured, and he's got ambition that won't quit. If he keeps this up, he could hit 170 appearances," Matthäus boasted to Bild[1].

This Wednesday, Kimmich is set to take the field in the Nations League semi-final against Portugal, where he'll be playing his 100th match for the team in Munich (9:00 PM/ZDF and DAZN)[1]. "Sure, I'd be stoked if he ever breaks my record of 150 caps," Matthäus added in a column for Sky[1].

Matthäus' Favorite Position: Midfield for Kimmich

At 64 years old, the 1990 World Cup winner, Matthäus, expresses a preference for seeing Kimmich in the midfield. "Joshua is a world-class talent as a right-back and a midfielder. But I think he's at his best in the center where he's controlling the game. As a right-back, he's less involved in the build-up," Matthäus stated[1].

However, Matthäus also conceded, "Nagelsmann doesn't have another player who fits the bill for the right-back position. I can't see any alternative that looks convincing to me either."[1]

Sports analysts suggest that Joshua Kimmich's impressive performance and consistent health might propel him to surpass Lothar Matthäus' sports-analysis record of 150 appearances for the German national team, particularly as he takes the field in midfield positions. Matthäus himself endorses Kimmich's potential to shine in the midfield, believing it to be where he is most influential in controlling the game.
