Matt Lauer's fall from grace: Where is the ex-Today host now?

Matt Lauer, once a prominent cohost of NBC's Today show, left the network in 2017 amid sexual misconduct allegations. Since then, he has remained out of the public eye, focusing on his private life in the Hamptons. His career at NBC spanned decades, but no other professional roles have been reported since his departure.

Lauer's time at NBC ended abruptly in November 2017 when the network terminated his contract following allegations of inappropriate behaviour. One incident involved claims of harassment towards a female staffer during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. While he admitted to acting inappropriately as a husband, father, and colleague, he denied any coercive or aggressive actions.

His personal life also faced turmoil. Lauer and his second wife, Annette Roque, quietly separated in 2018 before finalising their divorce in 2020. The couple had met on a blind date in 1997 and married the following year. They shared three children: Jack (born 2001), Romy (born 2003), and Thijs (born 2006). Roque had previously filed for divorce while pregnant with their third child but later reconciled before their eventual split.

Before his marriage to Roque, Lauer was wed to Nancy Alspaugh from 1982 to 1989. That union ended without children. Throughout his career, Lauer took brief breaks from Today, including a paternity leave in 2003 after Romy's birth.

Since leaving MSNBC, Lauer has not returned to television or taken on public roles. His divorce from Roque was finalised in 2020, marking the end of a relationship that had weathered both personal and professional challenges. The allegations from 2017 remain the defining factor in his departure from public life.
