Josh Kimmich's Quest to Break Lothar Matthäus' Records

Mathias shares Germany's national record with Kimmich, disclosing additional details.

Munich - Legendary Lothar Matthäus, with 150 caps for the German national team, thinks Josh Kimmich could shatter the record he set. "Yo, if any bloke's gonna catch me, it's Kimmich.Been sayin' that for years, and I stand by it. He's young, rarely injured, and super ambitious. If he keeps grindin', he could hit 170 appearances, no sweat," Matthäus told Bild.

Kimmich's 100th cap for the nation is slated for the Nations League semi-final against Portugal, this Wednesday in Munich (9 PM EST, ZDF and DAZN). "Aye, if he ever takes my record of 150 appearances, I won't be mad. That man's a legend," Matthäus penned in a Sky column.

Matthäus Wants Kimmich in the Middle

The 64-year-old '90 World Cup winner favors seeing his replacement in the center. "Kimmich is a world-class right-back and midfielder. I reckon he's most crucial in the middle, where he sets the tempo. As a right-back, he's not as involved in the setup," said Matthäus.

Yet, he also admitted, "Julian Nagelsmann don't have another fella who fits the bill for the right-back spot. Haven't seen no other plan that's convincing either."

Sources: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]Matthäus, a 150-time football international, sees Kimmich as a contender to overtake his all-time record for appearances with the German national team. Kimmich is set to earnt his 100th cap in the UEFA Nations League semi-final against Portugal, becoming the 14th German player to reach a century of appearances and the first to do so without a World Cup win[1][4][5]. Though persistent, the challenge for Kimmich to surpass Matthäus' record lies in maintaining his performance, health, and continued international selection, especially into his late 30s[1][4][5].

sports analysts have suggested that Josh Kimmich's impressive record of 100 appearances for the German national team could see him surpassing Lothar Matthäus' sports-analysis record of 150 caps. If Kimmich can maintain his form, health, and continued international selection, he could potentially break Matthäus' record and become the first German player to do so without a World Cup win.
