Match between Aue and Zwickau halted after 12 minutes.

Football fans were left disappointed as the U16 match between powerhouses FC Erzgebirge Aue and FSV Zwickau was abruptly called off after just 12 minutes due to violent outbreaks.

What started as a promising clash for points in the top tier of the Landesliga Sachsen escalated quickly, with "some hooligans" causing chaos on the sidelines, according to FC Erzgebirge Aue. At least thirty masked individuals stormed the Zwickau fan area, injuring four teenagers in the process and triggering a chaos that could not be contained, even with significantly more stewards than usual for youth games, the club stated on their website.

The police, who deployed a force of 40 officers, arrested a 27-year-old suspect in connection with the violent attacks. The perpetrators, however, managed to flee into a nearby forest.

The match, which was being monitored by the sports court due to its significance in the race for the championship, is now in limbo, waiting for a verdict on whether it will be replayed or if the sports court will decide on the result based on the current score. FC Erzgebirge Aue were leading 1:0 at the time of the interruption.

FC Erzgebirge Aue expressed their regret for the incidents, stressing that the violent actions do not justify the violence, and vowing to take "consequential action" against the culprits, as soon as they are identified. The club's first team plays in the 3rd league.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle to maintain security at football matches, even with increased personnel and prior arrangements. The club has emphasized their commitment to ensuring future matches are safe, free from violence, and provide a comfortable environment for fans, players, and staff alike.
