"A Violent Outburst: The Suspension of FC Erzgebirge Aue U16 vs FSV Zwickau U17 Match"
Match between Aue and Zwickau abruptly terminated after mere 12 minutes.
Twitter Instagram LinkedIn "Offensive Behavior Ruins Youth Football Match": That's the headline FC Erzgebirge Aue is using, following the sudden suspension of their U16 team's match against FSV Zwickau U17. The encounter, initially promising with a spot at the top of the table at stake, was cut short after a hooligan attack ensued, just 12 minutes into the game.
The young athletes were vying for a chance to take the lead in the Landesliga B-Juniors, but the spectacle of sport was overshadowed by a violent assault. Police were promptly called to the scene after Aue secured a 1:0 lead, and the match was promptly abandoned. Roughly 130 spectators had registered for the game, according to the DFB's football.de portal.
According to reports, about 30 individuals, mainly donned in black and purple balaclavas, surged the Zwickau fans' area. Fan items were reported stolen, and three 15-year-olds and one 19-year-old were injured. One of the injured was hospitalized. The perpetrators fled into the surrounding woods.
The Culprit
A 27-year-old individual is currently under investigation for his alleged involvement in the attack. The police had 40 officers on duty at the scene.
FC Erzgebirge Aue addressed the incident on their website under the title "FC Erzgebirge Aue Apologizes for U16 Match Incidents." They condemned the "lethal attacks on spectators" and "preceding provocations," emphasizing that such acts didn't justify the violence. The club intends to "swiftly impose strict actions against the perpetrators" should they be identified.
The Incident
Approximately 12 minutes into the match, when the score was 1:0 in favor of Aue, "some hooligans" infiltrated the guest area of the spectator stands and assaulted the visitors. Despite providing more stewards than usual for youth games, the club was unable to contain the escalation. With safety becoming unguaranteeable, the referee had no choice but to terminate the match.
It remains undecided whether the match will be replayed or resumed at a later date, or if the sports court will make a decision regarding the outcome. A win for Aue would have given them the lead going into the final matchday of the season. Meanwhile, Zwickau would have reduced the gap between themselves, SC Borea Dresden, and Aue's youth team with a win. However, with Dresden and Aue facing off in the season finale, Zwickau's chances of winning the championship have diminished.
