** Reddit ** Telegram ** Reddit ** Email ** Print ** Copy Link "Hooligans" Derail a Friendly Match: That's how FC Erzgebirge Aue described the incident, where their U16 team was set to face FSV Zwickau's U17 team. But due to a brawl on the stands, the match was abruptly halted.

This incident occurred during a highly anticipated match in the Landesliga, where both teams were striving to make their mark. However, the competitive spirit was overshadowed by chaos, leading to the Police's swift intervention.

According to reports, around 30 individuals, primarily wearing black and lilac balaclavas, invaded the Zwickau fan area. As a result, three 15-year-olds and a 19-year-old were injured, and some fan merchandise was stolen. One of the injured individuals required hospitalization, while the attackers fled into the nearby woods.

A 27-year-old suspect has been detained, and investigations are underway for public disorder charges. More than 40 police officers were present during the incident.

"Heightened Security, Yet..."

In a statement on their website, FC Erzgebirge Aue expressed their apologies for the unfortunate events, referring to the incidents as "vicious attacks on spectators" and "preceding provocations," albeit acknowledging that they did not justify the ensuing violence. The club has vowed to sternly punish the perpetrators once they are identified. Erzgebirge Aue's senior team currently plays in the 3rd league.

Aue claimed that "some hooligans" entered the guest area of the spectator stands in the 12th minute, when the score was 1:0 for FC Erzgebirge. Despite having an increased number of security personnel, the club couldn't prevent the situation from spiraling out of control. With safety becoming a growing concern, the referee had no choice but to terminate the match.

Currently, there is no official confirmation regarding a potential replay or rescheduling of the abandoned match. If the match is replayed, Aue's U16 team would enter the final matchday as league leaders with a win. A victory for Zwickau, on the other hand, could have narrowed the gap to league leaders SC Borea Dresden and FC Erzgebirge's youth team. However, Zwickau's youth team is no longer in contention for the championship, as they are scheduled to play Aue in the season finale.
