Michael "Michi" Jung, one of the world's top eventing athletes, stole the show on the opening day of the Wiesbaden Eventing Tournament with his astounding performance aboard fischerSolution II. Close on his heels is up-and-comer Brandon Schäfer-Gehrau. The cross-country leg promises excitement and maybe Jung's seventh Wiesbaden victory.

Top-notch Dressage Performance

Jung, a four-time Olympic champion, left no doubts about his prowess with an almost-perfect Dressage score of just 26.5 penalty points. His nine-year-old gelding, fischerSolution II, demonstrated composure and focus despite the large crowd.

"fischerSolution II is an exceptional talent," Jung said of his horse, praising its agility, sensitivity, and resilience. "We're still in the early stages of this horse's career, and I'm confident it will reach great heights."

Impressive Surge from Schäfer-Gehrau

Schäfer-Gehrau, 25, also put together an outstanding performance with his ten-year-old mount, Very Special. Their combined scores of 27.1 in the Dressage and a flawless Show Jumping performance secured them the second spot overall, as well as leading the U25 German Championship.

Schäfer-Gehrau expressed pride in his horse's progress: "This horse has shown remarkable improvement since last year. I'm optimistic about our chances in the upcoming cross-country."

Aiming for Seventh Star in Wiesbaden

Jung has already claimed the Wiesbaden Eventing crown an astounding six times with six different horses. If fischerSolution II helps him clinch a seventh title, it will mark another significant achievement in Jung's illustrious career. However, he remains focused on their potential success in the cross-country event, which he considers the most crucial part of the tournament.

"Winning here again would mean a lot, but my first priority is ensuring we have a strong performance on the cross-country."

Heartbreak for Isabell Werth; Supporting Role

The unexpected withdrawal of Isabell Werth left many disappointed. Known for her dominance in Wiesbaden, her absence left a void in the tournament. Despite missing out on competing this year, she will attend the event on Sunday to support her long-time trainer Lisa Wernitznig.

"Wiesbaden holds a special place in my heart," said Werth, expressing her determination to return next year.
