It's clear as day that Borussia Dortmund's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, is keeping his cards close to his chest when it comes to the future of young gun Jamie Gittens. Dortmund has turned down a million-euro offer from Chelsea, signaling that not only are the teams miles apart on the price tag for Gittens, but they also have vastly different perceptions of his worth.

In a media round, Kehl declared that the dialogue between the two clubs had ended amicably, but with opposing viewpoints on Gittens' current value. Reports speculate that the English side made an offer of €55 million, a far cry from the reported €60 million that Borussia Dortmund values Gittens at, according to BuliNews[3]. Additionally, some sources suggest that the Bundesliga club might even be valuing him higher – at €65 million[4].

As it stands, Gittens will don the Borussia Dortmund jersey during the Club World Cup, taking place in the USA from June 14 to July 13. Kehl remains optimistic about Gittens' contributions to the team: "Jamie definitely makes our team better," he said[5].

Yet reports indicate that Gittens himself is already in agreement with Chelsea, raising speculation that a return to the land of his roots, where he once graced the youth academies of both Manchester City and Dortmund, is still up for grabs, perhaps even immediately after the Club World Cup.

"Sometimes, you gotta let 'em go..."

In a move that underscores the club's financial need, Dortmund recently brought in 17-year-old Jobe Bellingham for over €30 million[5]. With more transfers on the horizon in the summer, additional income would likely be welcome. Kehl admitted, "You have to sell at some point, of course"[5]. Could Gittens find himself on the block? Kehl remained noncommittal, stating, "I assume his market value won't decrease"[5].

With talks between Chelsea and Dortmund expected to re-emerge in the near future due to the conclusion of Loan Player Carney Chukwuemeka's contract at the end of the month – right smack in the middle of the Club World Cup – fans will undoubtedly be eager to see if Gittens remains a permanent member of the Borussia Dortmund family. "We'll see if we can keep him until the end of the tournament. There will be more talks about that," Kehl announced[5].
