In an unfolding situation, a massive explosion rocked Providence Industrial Estate, located on Mahe, the largest island of the Seychelles Archipelago, a former British colony in the Indian Ocean, near the eastern African region. The volatile event triggered a state of emergency in this sparsely populated African nation, seizing global attention.

As of now, it remains unclear if there were any casualties. In response, schools have been shut, and only essential workers were given permission to move freely, following the explosion that reportedly caused extensive damage in Providence's industrial estate and surrounding areas.

The torrential rain and flooding the region has experienced recently further exacerbated the situation, causing significant damage. The President, in light of these circumstances, declared a state of emergency on December 7. In his statement, he cited the explosion in the CCCL explosive storage facility and the deluge from heavy rainfall as the reasons.

According to local media reports, the aftermath of the explosion left at least 100 individuals injured, while two lives were claimed by floods. The incident left the region looking like a war-torn area, as nearly every building sustained severe damage, as per local reports.

The public was urged to cooperate with the authorities and remain indoors by Ramkalavan's office. The Seychelles, being one of the least populous African nations with around 100,000 inhabitants, has steadily made headlines worldwide.

The chaos and state of emergency in Goma, Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), are primarily due to an armed conflict involving the Mouvement du 23 Mars (M23) armed group and the Congolese army. The conflict has resulted in mass displacement, injuries, fatalities, and public health concerns. Goma has been struck by temporary disruptions in water, electricity, and internet service, leaving many without essential necessities.
