Massive Events at Peterborough and Maidenhead: Exciting Days Await This Weekend
The Peterborough Summer Regatta 2025, held at Peterborough's Thorpe Meadows lake, was a spectacle of rowing excellence, with over 700 athletes from various clubs across the UK and Ireland participating in the two-day event.
Leeds Rowing Club (Leeds RC) was the standout performer of the regatta, claiming the Victor Ludorum title by amassing a remarkable haul of 13 gold, 9 silver, and 18 bronze medals across 66 events.
On the first day, Leeds RC's women's crew clinched the Women's Band 2 Pairs gold, while 'Evans' from the club secured the Open Band 1 Single Scull victory. The Leeds women's crew also triumphed in the Band 1 Single Sculls and the Band 2 Women's Quadruple Sculls.
In the junior category, Leeds RC demonstrated their strength in the Women's J14 Double Sculls, winning both gold and bronze medals, with Beckett RC sandwiched between them on the podium.
Competitive races were aplenty throughout the regatta. The Open Band 3 Single Sculls race saw a nail-biting finish, with Mullins of Burway RC edging past his Marlow RC opposition by a mere one foot. Maidenhead RC's 'Karlson' claimed victory in the Open Band 3 Single Sculls.
The Open Band 1 Eights final was a closely contested race, with Maidenhead RC composite crews edging out London RC, Molesey BC, and Northwich RC composite by a small margin. The final race of the Open Explore Coxed Quads was won by Maidenhead's 'Boeg' crew with a three-foot margin over Broxbourne RC.
The Open Explore Coxed Quads races ran every 30 minutes throughout the morning, with Maidenhead RC providing the boats and blades for the event.
On the second day of the regatta, Leeds RC won both boats in the final of Mixed Eights, beating Peterborough City RC by just 0.1 seconds. In the Band 1 Women's Eights, Leeds RC's top boat won against York City RC by a mere 0.5 seconds.
The Open Band 2 Single Sculls final was won by Nottingham RC's 'Hartley' on the second day of the regatta. A composite crew of Glasgow University BC, Strathclyde Park RC, Leeds University BC, and Strathclyde Park RC won the Band 1 Women's Quadruple Sculls final on the first day of the regatta.
Peterborough City won the Open Masters C/D/E 4- final, while York City won the Open Masters E/F 4+ final. In Masters G/H single sculls, Star Lakeland RC’s Waugh narrowly secured first place.
The Maidenhead Regatta 2025, held alongside Peterborough, also saw high participation and competitive racing, although detailed race-by-race results were not provided in the sources.
In summary, Leeds RC's impressive medal haul and strong junior and women's crews were the major standouts at Peterborough, reflecting their depth and competitiveness in 2025.
