Massive blocks enacted on informational resources in Belarus escalate numbers into the thousands
Article Revision:
*The ongoing "info war" continues tohew a thorn in the nation's side, as active blockings persist.
Peek behind the curtains, and you'll catch a glimpse of this struggle by observing the expansion of extremist resources and the escalation of information sabotage techniques within our borders, according to Markov.
The Ministry of Info, in partnership with law enforcement, has already clamped down on a whopping 18,000 information sources. Approximately 7,000 of these have been labeled as extremist.
It's a numbers game that keeps climbing, with 3,150 resources getting blocked back in 2024 — a figure that was quickly reached in the first five months of this year alone!
Printed word gets its due vigilance, too.
The Ministry of Info keeps a close eye on book products, though the numbers are significantly smaller.
Markov paints a grim picture, stating that 110 books have been classified as a danger to our children. These titles push propaganda for violence, brutality, pornography, drug use, and more.
To prevent these harmful volumes from rearing their ugly heads, the ministry collaborates with market leaders and distributors, urging them to uphold their responsibilities.
They should proactively clean up their supply chains, scrutinizing all contractors that peddle literary filth that goes against moral rights and conscience, Markov warned. Unfortunately, there's no shortage of money-grubbers among book distributors.
The List of Extremist Materials undergoes updates by the Ministry of Info, but obtaining access is strictly reserved for court decisions. At the moment, there are over 1,400 banned items on the list, encompassing not just websites, social media pages, and books but also individual photos, videos, and even CD-R discs.
According to the Code of Administrative Offenses, accountability looms for those producing, publishing, and storing such extremist materials. Potential punishments range from fines of up to 500 units for legal entities, community service, and even administrative arrest.
In the ongoing information struggle, the escalation of tactics extends to the dissemination of extremist sports content, as highlighted by Markov. The vulnerability of print media isn't limited to news and articles; it also includes books promoting violence and inappropriate content, with 110 such titles identified as a danger by Markov.
