Samantha Sarri, a seasoned policy advisor and marine conservation advocate, is set to relocate to Boston from Silver Spring, Maryland, with her family, including her husband, rescue cats, and dogs.

Sarri, originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, has a rich background in marine conservation, having served as the president and CEO of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation in Silver Spring, and most recently as the USAID acting chief climate officer and senior advisor for climate and environment in the Bureau for Resilience, Environment, and Food Security.

In her new role in Massachusetts, Sarri will focus on nature conservation and climate resilience, taking on a position as the state director for The Nature Conservancy, a leading global environmental organization dedicated to conservation efforts, including marine ecosystems.

Sarri's career in marine conservation began early, with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University, majoring in biology and minoring in political science. She later earned two master's degrees from the University of Michigan: a Master of Science in natural resources and a Master of Public Health.

During her eight years in the U.S. Senate, Sarri served on the professional staff of the Senate Commerce Committee with responsibility for the Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard Subcommittee. She also served as a senior policy advisor to Senator Jack Reed during her time in the U.S. Senate.

Sarri's passion for marine conservation extends beyond policy and leadership. She is an avid SCUBA diver and has spent her life influenced by a strong sense of service and a love for the outdoors, particularly the ocean.

As Sarri prepares to embark on her new journey in Massachusetts, she aims to significantly accelerate the pace of environmental progress in the state. She looks forward to working closely with the Board of Trustees and staff in her new role.
