Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey took to social media over the weekend, venting her frustrations after ICE nabbed a high school student on his way to volleyball practice. The student in question, Marcelo Gomes, a senior at Milford High School, faces legal troubles as an undocumented immigrant.
Healey expresses her dismay, calling for immediate explanations from ICE regarding the student's detainment and demanding assurances for his due process. "I want answers now as to why this student was taken into custody by immigration enforcement," she emphasizes.

Protesters swarmed Milford High School following the arrest, demanding Gomes' release and an end to ICE's alleged harassment in the community.
Governor Healey points the finger at the Trump administration for fostering fear and insecurity. "The Trump Administration continues to create fear in our communities and makes us all less secure," Healey argues.
In her statement, Healey claims that the student was apprehended without warning, leaving local authorities in the dark. "Once more, local officials and law enforcement have been left in the dark with no heads up and no answers to their questions," she adds.
Congressman Jake Auchincloss, representing Milford, shows solidarity with the community, describing Gomes as an exemplary student engaged in honors classes, volunteering for girls' volleyball, and participating in the school band.
Milford School District Superintendent Kevin McIntyre reiterates the school system's neutral stance on immigration enforcement but promises support for their immigrant students. "These students are part of our community, learners in our classrooms, athletes, artists, friends, and neighbors. We will do everything in our power to stand by our students during these testing times," McIntyre affirms.
Sadly, Milford High School's graduation day has become a day marred by uncertainty and fear instead of celebration. "My thoughts go out to the Milford community on what was intended to be a festive graduation day," Healey laments.
Governor Healey criticizes the Trump administration's immigration enforcement practices in the context of politics, stating that they stir fear and insecurity among communities.
