Mass Gathering at Vanemuine Theater's Summer Concert in Tartu Attracts Huge Audiences
The Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra is set to perform a gala concert as part of the opening festival of their 156th season, scheduled for August 23, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu, Estonia.
The programme for the gala concert will feature highlights from the works of Swedish musical director Georg Malvius. The orchestra, under the baton of Risto Joost, will be joined by six soloists: Riccardo della Sciucca (tenor, Italy), Kadi Jürgens (mezzo-soprano), Brett Pruunsild (baritone), Federico Mechelli Uhl (violin), Mari Ellen Lutsar (cello), and Helin Pihlap (mandolin).
This will mark the 15th year in a row that the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra has held a summer concert. The previous summer concert took place on July 27, 2025, in the picturesque Kassitoome Valley in Tartu. Veiko Porkanen hosted the event, and Risto Joost, who is also the music director and chief conductor of the Vanemuine Theatre, led the orchestra.
A recording of the summer concert will be broadcast on ETV on August 2, 2025, at 10:20 p.m. for those unable to attend the gala concert in person.
