The Gaza Strip, a small coastal region sandwiched between Israel and Egypt on the Mediterranean Sea, has been the centre of a long-standing dispute between Israel and its neighbouring countries, commonly known as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This conflict revolves around the question of who rightfully owns the land.

Since 2023, the region has been embroiled in a war between Israel and Hamas, a political organisation that governs the Gaza Strip. The conflict erupted when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in over 1,200 deaths and the kidnapping of over 200 people.

Hamas, an organisation that claims to follow the religion of Islam and seeks to eliminate the Jewish state of Israel, has been using violence to fight for a Palestinian state and against Israel. Israel, in response, has been waging war in the Gaza Strip since the Hamas attack.

The war has taken a heavy toll on the civilian population of the Gaza Strip, which is home to over 2 million Palestinians. Over 10,000 civilians have been killed, and many more are facing starvation due to Israel's blockade of food and medicine entering the region.

The international community has expressed concern over the worsening situation in the Gaza Strip. Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, and New Zealand, along with the United Arab Emirates, have issued joint statements warning of humanitarian consequences and calling for restraint. They have expressed particular concern over Israeli plans in Gaza and actions in the West Bank that could harm peace prospects.

Israel and other countries consider Hamas a terrorist organisation due to its attacks on Israel. However, the United Nations reports that many thousands of people have been killed by Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip.

The neighbouring country of Lebanon, with Beirut as its capital, has also been affected by the conflict. Lebanon, a small country on the Mediterranean Sea, shares a border with Israel and Syria. People in Lebanon primarily speak Arabic and French.

Israel, a country in the Middle East located on the Mediterranean Sea, with Jerusalem as its capital, is predominantly Jewish, but Muslims and Christians also live there. Most people in Israel speak Hebrew or Arabic.

Hezbollah, a political party and an armed group based in Lebanon, has been fighting against Israel for a long time. Iran supports Hezbollah. The capital of the Gaza Strip is Gaza City.

The destruction caused by the war in the Gaza Strip has left many struggling to survive, with the region largely destroyed and many facing starvation. The international community continues to call for an end to the violence and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
