Mascherano acknowledges no justifications following Miami's 4-1 defeat against Orlando
In a surprising turn of events, Orlando City handed Inter Miami their first defeat in six games, winning 4-1 in a thrilling encounter. The victory propels Orlando City up to fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Inter Miami, who were without their talisman Lionel Messi due to injury, struggled to find their footing against a determined Orlando City side. The hosts took the lead just two minutes into the game, thanks to Luis Muriel's eighth goal of the season, set up by Rodrigo Ojeda.
Yannick Bright levelled the score for Inter Miami in the 26th minute, marking his first career goal for the club. However, Orlando City responded swiftly, with Ojeda scoring his 14th goal of the year to restore their lead in the 52nd minute. Muriel added another goal in the 70th minute to seal the victory for Orlando City.
Inter Miami's captain, Javier Mascherano, admitted that his team's performance was poor, stating, "There was only one team on the field during the match." Mascherano took responsibility for the loss and believes that the match was a turning point for Inter Miami, emphasising the need for improvement going forward.
Pedro Gallese made four saves for Orlando City, while Oscar Ustari made eight saves for Inter Miami in a game that was dominated by goalkeeping interventions. Despite the defeat, Inter Miami currently sit in sixth place in the standings, with several games in hand on the teams above them.
Inter Miami's next match is against the LA Galaxy, while Orlando City face Sporting Kansas City. With Lionel Messi expected to return soon, Inter Miami will be hoping to bounce back from this defeat and continue their push for the playoffs.
