Martynas Echodas leaves Alba Berlin early to rejoin Rytas Vilnius

Martynas Echodas, a 6-foot-10 centre, is leaving Alba Berlin after both sides agreed to end his one-year contract early. The Lithuanian player will now return to his former club, Rytas Vilnius, where he previously won the national championship in 2024. Echodas joined Alba Berlin but struggled with a knee injury at the start of the season. He only made his debut in December. Since then, he has played in 13 Bundesliga matches and six international games.

Before his time in Germany, the big man spent two separate spells at Rytas Vilnius—first from 2017 to 2021, then again from 2022 until 2024. His return to Lithuania follows a successful 2024 campaign, where he helped the team secure the Lithuanian league title. Details about his full career in European basketball beyond the Basketball Champions League remain unconfirmed. Official records would be needed to verify his participation in other competitions.

The early contract termination means Echodas will now rejoin Rytas Vilnius for the rest of the season. His experience and height will likely bolster the team's frontcourt. The move marks a quick return to familiar surroundings after his brief stint in Germany.
