Martin Winkler aims to take the chairmanship of the SPÖ OÖ, a regional party chapter.

The SPÖ Upper Austria is putting their bet on Martin Winkler, a 61-year-old entrepreneur hailing from Katsdorf, for their party's chairmanship. The state party board put forward Winkler as a unanimous candidate on Tuesday. With a hefty 30-year consulting experience under his belt, advising heavyweights like KTM, voestalpine, and Lenzing, Winkler boasts a strong reputation for economic expertise - a standout factor among the incumbent regional leaders from the ÖVP and FPÖ, who are traditional career politicians.

This member-direct election will take place digitally from May 28 to June 16, with eligible members casting their votes. To be eligible for candidacy, at least 250 members from three districts must back the candidate. Winkler himself aims to push through a clear plan and cater to the broad middle of society. The election's results will be announced on June 17.

Winkler desires a substantial investment in sustainable energy, housing, and infrastructure as part of his vision. He openly advocates for these investments, insisting they're vital to offer young people a future in their native region. The vote is ongoing, and Winkler, running as the sole candidate, is poised to win decisively, thanks to his unified support within the party.

Winkler is considered more of a "classic homecomer" than a stranger to politics, bringing a blend of business savvy and fresh perspectives to the SPÖ in Upper Austria. Alois Stöger, the outgoing acting party chair, has endorsed Winkler, praising his commitment to secure jobs, his clear priorities, and his ability to unite the party as a "strong signal of renewal."

  1. Winkler's vision for substantial investments in sustainable energy, housing, and infrastructure, which he believes are crucial for providing young people with a future in their native region, could significantly boost the SPÖ's profit in the upcoming politics and general-news landscape.
  2. Alois Stöger's endorsement of Winkler, emphasizing his commitment to secure jobs, clear priorities, and his ability to unite the party, suggests a strong political alliance that could potentially bring about a shift in the current political dynamics, enhancing the SPÖ's standing amidst competing parties.
