"Martin Scorsese is creating a fresh documentary, titled 'Aldeas - A New Story,' in collaboration with Pope Francis"
Headlines roll as Martin Scorsese crafts a captivating documentary with the late Pope Francis, illuminating the cinematic endeavors of the global educational movement the pope founded before his passing.
The iconic filmmaker, Martin Scorsese, is breathing life into a groundbreaking documentary, entwining the final on-screen interview of Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21st, 2023, at the age of 88.
Scorsese and Pope Francis crossed paths numerous times over the years, and their chats often influenced Scorsese's work, from the controversial 1988 film, The Last Temptation of Christ, to his 2016 film, Silence, which revisited the hardships of Portuguese Jesuit missionaries in 17th-century Japan.
At the pope's demise, Scorsese expressed his sorrow and shared, "The loss for me runs deep - I was fortunate enough to know him, and I will miss his presence and his warmth. The world loses an immensity."
Apparently, Scorsese will now be directing Aldeas - A New Story, a feature-length documentary and global cultural project spawned by Scholas Occurrentes, the educational movement conceived by Pope Francis.
Aldeas - A New Story will showcase Pope Francis' final in-depth interview specifically created for this documentary. Before his passing, the pope himself explained the essence of the film, stating, "'Aldeas' is an extremely poetic and constructive project because it delves into the roots of what human life centers around – sociability, human conflicts ... the crux of a life's journey."
Scorsese remarked, "Now more than ever, we need to converse and genuinely listen to each other cross-culturally. One of the best means to achieve this is by swapping our personal stories and experiences. It aids in understanding and appreciating how diverse perspectives influence our worldview." He continued, "Pope Francis deemed it crucial for individuals worldwide to exchange ideas with respect, as well as safeguarding their cultural identity. Film is the ideal medium for such an endeavor."
As of now, no official release date has been unveiled for the movie.
