Leeds United's Elland Road Stadium Upgrades Audio System with Martin Audio TORUS Arrays
Leeds United's Elland Road stadium is undergoing a significant audio system upgrade, replacing its existing setup after over a decade. The renewal, led by Imperium Integration, features the latest technology from Martin Audio, including the TORUS constant curvature arrays.
The TORUS arrays, specifically the TORUS T1230 models, are designed to provide excellent sound quality in stadiums of this size. Each stand uses these arrays to ensure seamless sound coverage, including corners, with a consistent sound character throughout the venue.
The East Stand has six 3-box TORUS arrays, each paired with an SXCF118 cardioid subwoofer to enhance bass performance. The top tier of the East Stand features double TORUS arrays for extended coverage and output.
The arrays are chosen for their moderate weight combined with high output, allowing the use of subs in a "hang" configuration that does not overly burden the stadium’s structure. This design addresses structural engineering limitations effectively.
The South stand is equipped with six TORUS arrays, every alternate one with a sub. The North Stand has six TORUS arrays, every second one with an added SXCF118 sub. The West Stand is populated with eight TORUS arrays, every second one with a sub.
Each TORUS array in the new system comes with either an SXCF118 sub or a CDD12 speaker, depending on the stand's specific requirements. This setup ensures a uniform sound across all four stands and various other areas, providing seamless coverage.
The constant curvature design of the TORUS arrays is optimized for stadium applications, delivering clear and consistent sound coverage across wide areas without sonic degradation. The entire system is designed to create a more engaging match day experience while also meeting all life safety sound standard compliances, reflecting the club’s ambitions with the new audio system upgrade.
The stadium upgrade reflects the growing influence and ambition of Leeds United's owners, 49ers Enterprises. The upgrade is being done in preparation for Leeds United's return to the Premier League and increasing the ground’s capacity.
In the West Stand, CDD12s are used at the rear due to the physical barrier presented by the press gantry. More than 100 Martin Audio speakers have been installed as part of the renewal.
Imperium Integration tested the TORUS array alongside other equipment and found it to be sonically and acoustically superior. The TORUS array proved to be an excellent choice for the stadium's needs, providing uniform sonic timbre and excellent coverage across the stadium's stands and ancillary areas.
