After a nine-year career in professional cycling, Italian rider Marta Cavalli has announced her retirement. In an emotional post on Instagram, Cavalli expressed her sadness but acknowledged that it's time to chase for more dreams.

Cavalli's career was marked by numerous achievements, including winning the Amstel Gold Race, La Fleche Wallonne, and being runner-up at the Giro d'Italia in 2022. She started the 2025 season with Setmana Valenciana and later moved to Post Picnic NL.

However, Cavalli's career was marred by a series of injuries and crashes. In 2022, a horrible crash on stage 2 of the Tour de France Femmes brought both her race and run of results to a halt. This was followed by a car accident in July 2024. Despite her efforts to recover, Cavalli found it difficult to find the motivation to race due to her injuries and recovery.

In the latter half of the 2025 season, Cavalli struggled to finish stage races. Her top result in the season was a 13th place at Milan-San Remo Women. After coming back from her injuries late in the season, Cavalli was uncomfortable in the peloton for some time.

Cavalli's retirement comes after a difficult recovery from her injuries. She cited these challenges as one of the reasons for her decision to step away from the sport. In her Instagram post, Cavalli wrote that she doesn't feel part of the cycling world anymore.

Despite the challenges she faced, Cavalli's retirement was met with an emotional send-off by her fellow riders at the Tour Cycliste Feminin International de l'Ardèche. Cavalli won the race in 2023 and was given a warm farewell by the organisers and her peers.

Cavalli's retirement at the age of 27 marks the end of a promising career in professional cycling. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work, determination, and resilience. Cavalli will be remembered as one of the most closely watched riders in the peloton, and her impact on the sport will be felt for years to come.
