Marlon Wayans Discusses His Role in 'Him': "I'm Up for Any Challenge, I Can Deliver Across the Board"
Marlon Wayans is set to star in the unique sports horror flick, "Him", which is set to release in theaters on Friday. Directed by Justin Tipping, the film breaks new ground as a sports horror movie and explores the toll sports take on the body and the psychology of athletes.
Justin Tipping, the project's initiator, believed Marlon Wayans had the potential to play a role beyond his roles in the Scary Movie franchise. The film's approach to body horror was seen as inherent in the game itself, requiring careful shooting to depict.
The genre combination of sports and horror was initially "terrifying" for the filmmakers. However, Wayans, who plays a legendary quarterback in the film, mentioned his versatility as an actor, having played a white woman, seven people in one movie, a little person, a junkie, and many other roles.
Tyriq Withers, who plays an up-and-coming football star in "Him", found the script to be "food for his soul". At the Los Angeles premiere of "Him", Marlon Wayans discussed entering the horror genre after his long career. He stated that he wouldn't have auditioned for "Him" if the team hadn't believed in him.
The film is compared to movies like Black Swan and Whiplash. Actor Marlon Wayans is described as being "one of one" and the only actor who is doing what he's doing at the level he's doing it. Jordan Peele is an executive producer for the film "Him".
"Him" is a film that delves deep into the sacrifices athletes make to become the greatest, to the point of unrecognizability. With its release just around the corner, audiences are eagerly waiting to see Marlon Wayans in this new and exciting role.
