Marlins secure a 3-game sweep against Rockies with Liam Hicks contributing a career-best 4 RBIs, resulting in a 9-7 victory.
Marlins Top Rockies in Exciting Game, Prepare for Rangers
The Miami Marlins continued their impressive form with a 9-7 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Thursday, extending their winning streak to seven games. The win comes as they remain six games behind the New York Mets for the final National League wild-card spot.
Starting for the Marlins was Janson Junk, who pitched effectively, giving up three runs in 6 2/3 innings. The highlight of the game for the Marlins came in the third inning, where Liam Hicks and Otto Lopez hit back-to-back homers, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead. Hicks, who had a standout game, finished with four RBIs, including a homer, and Calvin Faucher picked up his 14th save.
Otto Lopez and Heriberto Hernández also homered for the Marlins in the game, contributing to their impressive 34 hits in the series at Coors Field.
On the other side, the Colorado Rockies struggled, losing their 11th game in a row, 12th in the last 13, and 22nd in the last 26 games. Mickey Moniak, who has been a bright spot for the Rockies, hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning, extending his streak of games with a homer to four. However, it was not enough to prevent the loss.
In his 11th major league game, Blaine Crim homered twice for the Rockies. Tanner Gordon pitched six innings, allowing four runs (three earned). Bradley Blalock will start for the Rockies against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, but the starting pitcher for the Angels has not been announced.
Meanwhile, the Marlins will face the Texas Rangers on Friday, with Tyler Mahle starting for the Rangers. Over his past 11 starts, Sandy Alcantara has a record of 6-3 with a 3.18 ERA, and he will be the one on the mound for the Marlins.
The Colorado Rockies' loss broke a tie with the 2004 Arizona Diamondbacks for the most losses by a National League team since 1969. The Rockies will look to turn their fortunes around when they face the Angels, while the Marlins will aim to continue their winning streak against the Rangers.
