Marlins manage to outscore Yankees, resulting in a second consecutive defeat for New York (game recap)
The New York Yankees struggled to find their offensive rhythm on Saturday, August 2, 2025, as they were shut out by the Miami Marlins in a close 2-0 game.
Rookie Agustín Ramírez was the star of the show for Miami, hitting two solo home runs in the 1st and 4th innings, accounting for all the runs scored by the Marlins. His first homer traveled an impressive 421 feet to left-center, while the second one went 418 feet to center.
The Yankees, on the other hand, found themselves limited offensively, managing only two hits in the game, both of which came in the first five innings. They had several opportunities to score, but a double play in the second inning and a caught runner at the plate in the opening frame ended potential rallies.
Rookie starter Cam Schlittler pitched well for the Yankees, allowing four hits over five innings and striking out six batters while walking two. Despite his solid performance, the Yankees were unable to capitalize on his effort.
The Marlins' defense and pitching were strong throughout the game, with notable action in the late innings that quelled Yankees rallies.
The Yankees are scheduled to face the Marlins again on Sunday at 1:40 p.m., with Luis Gil set to make his season debut for the Yankees. The team will be playing to avoid being swept by the Marlins.
