Mariners Secure Victory Behind Bryan Woo's Dominant Performance

The Seattle Mariners secured a hard-fought victory against the Chicago White Sox on August 5, 2025, thanks to a stellar seven-inning outing from Bryan Woo and a potent offensive performance.

In the second inning, Dominc Canzone tied the game at 1-1 with a 405-foot home run. This was Canzone's seventh home run of the season and his first since July 3. The Mariners' new-look lineup eventually knocked Davis Martin out of the game.

Bryan Woo, the Mariners' consistent pitcher, matched his career high with nine strikeouts and scattered just two hits with no walks. Woo's current season statistics include a 9-6 win-loss record, a 3.02 ERA, and a 0.94 WHIP, with 136 strikeouts and an impressive 136:25 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 140 innings in 22 starts.

Adam Eugenio Suárez made his presence felt in the third inning, hitting a two-run home run, his 37th of the season and first since his return to Seattle. The velocity of Suárez's home run was 105.9 mph off the bat, and it was a 390-foot shot out to left field.

Josh Naylor, acquired two weeks ago from the Diamondbacks, also contributed to the Mariners' offense, hitting his second home run with the team in the seventh inning. Naylor also stole two bases in the sixth inning and is 8 for 8 in stolen-base attempts in 11 games with the Mariners.

The Mariners' offense remained strong, with Jorge Polanco driving in a run with a two-run single, scoring Naylor.

However, Chicago's Luis Robert Jr. and Colson Montgomery hit solo homers off Jackson Kowar in the ninth inning, making the final score 5-3 in favour of the Mariners.

The Mariners (61-53) are now in the second American League wild-card spot, ahead of the Yankees (60-54) and 2.5 games back of the Red Sox for the top spot. The team remains three games back of the Astros (64-50) in the AL West.

The Mariners have improved to 4-1 since reuniting with Suárez at the trade deadline last week. With Woo leading the way on the mound and a potent offense, the Mariners are poised for a strong finish to the season.

Bryan Woo's dominant performance led the Seattle Mariners to victory against the Chicago White Sox, adding another win to their tally in the MLB. The victory was particularly sweet for Adam Eugenio Suárez, who hit a two-run home run in the third inning, marking his first home run since his return to Seattle. With Woo's impressive statistics and Suárez's timely hitting, the Mariners are on track for a successful end to the season, currently holding the second wild-card spot in the American League.
