Marina clinches Southern Section Division 3 softball title victory

Marina High School clinched the Southern Section Division 3 softball championship on Friday, besting Westlake 8-1 at Barber Park in Irvine. Aviana Valbuena showcased an impressive performance with three hits and four RBIs, while her sister, Mia Valbuena, tallied an impressive 13 strikeouts with just one walk. This victory raises Marina's season record to 19-13.

Elsewhere in the division, Los Alamitos emerged victorious in a grueling 10-inning match against JSerra, securing the Division 2 championship with a 3-0 victory. The decisive blow came in the 10th inning, as Cienna Kowaleski launched a two-run home run to cap off a spectacular pitching duel. Liliana Escobar of JSerra struck out an impressive 16 batters, while Jaliane Brooks of Los Alamitos pitched all 10 innings, recording five strikeouts.

In Division 6, Irvine University edged out Rio Hondo Prep 4-1, and Rancho Mirage defeated Culver City 7-3 in Division 7.

In the Division 2 softball championship, Los Alamitos defeated JSerra in a tense 10-inning match, securing the victory with a 3-0 score. The excitement of baseball playoffs can also be felt as Division 6 and Division 7 winners were decided in Los Angeles, with Irvine University and Rancho Mirage securing their titles, respectively.
