March Madness is set to begin this week, with both the men's and women's NCAA basketball tournaments tipping off. The excitement is already building as fans prepare for the First Four play-in games starting tomorrow. Sportsbooks are also bracing for a surge in betting, with record engagement expected across the country.

The American Gaming Association predicts that Americans will place around $3.3 billion in wagers through legal sportsbooks during this year's tournament. The first day alone features some of the biggest opening spreads, including Arizona at -29.5, Duke at -28.5, and Purdue at -23.5. Iowa State, Houston, and Illinois also enter with spreads over -21.5.

The most heavily bet games on the opening day include SMU facing Miami OH, NC State taking on Texas, and Howard playing MD Baltimore. Other high-interest matchups feature Northern Iowa against St. John's and High Point versus Wisconsin. In the men's tournament, the Duke Blue Devils lead as the top favourite at +295 odds. Meanwhile, the Connecticut Huskies are strong favourites in the women's bracket, holding -280 odds to win it all. Potential underdog stories in the men's bracket could come from South Florida, Saint Louis, or Miami (Ohio), teams that might pull off surprises.

With the First Four games kicking off tomorrow, the stage is set for another thrilling March Madness. Sportsbooks are preparing for unprecedented betting activity, while fans watch closely to see if the favourites hold strong or if Cinderella teams emerge. The tournament's opening matches will set the tone for what promises to be a high-energy event.
