Marc Márquez achieves a first in Austria, a track on which he previously failed, marking the finest day in Fermín Aldeguer's MotoGP career.
In the latest instalment of the 2025 MotoGP season, Marc Marquez extended his impressive winning streak with a victory at the Austrian Grand Prix. This marked his ninth GP victory of the year, and the sixth consecutive long race victory, which is the second-best streak in his illustrious career.
Marquez's performance was particularly noteworthy given the strong competition he faced. Fermín Aldeguer presented a serious challenge, finishing second in the race, overtaking Pedro Acosta in the final stages. Aldeguer's performance prompted Marquez to analyse why Aldeguer performed better in the final stretch, as he aims to maintain his dominance.
Meanwhile, Marquez's title rivals had a less successful day. Alex Marquez finished tenth, behind Raúl Fernández who finished ninth. Pecco Bagnaia, another main contender, finished eighth. Initial impressions suggest that Jorge Martín, who fell mid-race, has no serious injuries.
Joan Mir achieved a meritorious sixth place in the race, the best result for a Honda rider. Fabio Quartararo qualified strongly in third position, but could not match Marquez’s winning streak. Francesco Bagnaia, Marquez’s teammate and double MotoGP World Champion, finished fourth, giving one of the best overtakes on Bagnaia.
As of the 2025 MotoGP season, Marquez has been performing exceptionally well with the Ducati Lenovo Team. His historic winning streak and strong qualifying performances have cemented a dominant position in the championship. Marquez is now 142 points ahead of his brother Alex and 197 points ahead of Pecco Bagnaia.
The Austrian Grand Prix was a significant event for Marquez, as it was his first victory in Austria. In addition, he won a double, including the sprint race held the previous day. This double victory marks a significant milestone in Marquez's career, further cementing his position as a formidable force in the world of MotoGP.
