Golfer Marc Leishman Slams Critic Brandel Chamblee Over LIV Golf Criticism

As Marc Leishman steps up to take on his first Major tournament since 2022, he's firing back at LIV Golf critic Brandel Chamblee. The 41-year-old Aussie insists LIV Golf helps prepare players for the Majors, despite criticism the lighter schedule is undercooking golfers for the toughest tests.

Leishman has skipped Major championships since joining LIV Golf, yet he's made it to both the U.S. Open at Oakmont and the Open Championship at Royal Portrush through qualifying. While some, like Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau, have won Majors while playing on LIV Golf, Chamblee and other critics still express concerns.

Chamblee points to Jon Rahm's late collapse at the PGA Championship as an example, but Leishman firmly disagrees. In fact, Leishman's thoughts align with Joaquin Niemann's, who finds the LIV Golf format suits him just fine.

"I'm content with the schedule and how it leads into Majors," Leishman told Australian media, including the AAP. "I'd probably disagree with Brandel Chamblee a lot. We're playing against top-notch fields every single week on challenging courses."

Leishman defends the 14-event LIV Golf schedule, arguing it benefits players preparing for the Majors. He emphasizes that the schedule set-up allows him to focus on Major tournaments while others would be prepping for other events.

"The LIV schedule actually aids in Major preparation. I was able to prepare for the U.S. Open qualifier, which I wouldn't have typically been able to do," Leishman adds. "I want to test myself against the best players, and we do just that in LIV events. There's no cutting corners – you're in it to win it."

Leishman, with six Major top 10s including losing the Open Championship playoff to Zach Johnson at St Andrews, is eager to prove himself back in the big leagues.

"Golf is a crazy game," Leishman says. "To excel, you need things to fall into place at the right times, especially during the Major weeks. I just focus on my prep and pray for the right breaks."

Leishman's game feels stronger than ever, both physically and mentally, with the hope of securing another major win this time around.

"Sometimes even when you have your A-game and make the putts, someone can still outperform you," Leishman concludes. "You need everything to go your way, but right now, I'm as ready as I've ever been to challenge again."
