In the picturesque district of Marmstorf, located in Hamburg, Germany, the annual bird shooting event of the Guardians of Marmstorf took place this weekend. The event, known as a "Vogelschießen" in German, is a central and symbolic occasion for the traditional shooting club, attracting visitors and locals alike.
The Guardians of Marmstorf, a local shooting club, have been preserving an important cultural tradition through their annual bird shooting event. This festive occasion involves participants shooting at a wooden bird target, with the goal being to "shoot down" the bird piece by piece until a winner is determined. The event is typically accompanied by parades, music, and celebrations.
This year, the event held a special theme, associated with the football match between Germany and Spain. Festival visitors, guardians, and members of the Seevetal Brass Orchestra gathered to watch the match, with the retreat march commencing after the final whistle, under the command of Michael Pahlke. The retreat march was played by both the Marmstorf Spielmannszug and the Seevetal Brass Orchestra.
The open-air area of the Guardian's Court Nova was used for the event, with approximately 200 guests invited by the Marmstorf royal couple, Jochen Meyer and Katja Ambos. Delegations from various districts, including Harburg, Buxtehude Shooting Guild, Heimfeld, Rahlstedt, Eißendorf, Rönneburg, Moorburg, and Neuenfelde, were among those in attendance.
The retreat march concluded an eventful day filled with camaraderie, cultural heritage, and community spirit. The outgoing majesty Jochen Meyer expressed his satisfaction with the event, stating, "Reception and retreat march were simply fantastic for us as the royal couple. Katja and I are thrilled: It was a great time."
In addition to the traditional festivities, guests were treated to delicious gyros with tzatziki, beans, and other ingredients, provided by Gasthaus Sahling. The Greek dish was a hit among the attendees.
As the event came to a close, Jochen Meyer prepared to hand over his royal insignia to his successor on Monday, marking the end of a memorable celebration in the village centre that will continue until Monday. The Marmstorf Bird Shooting event remains a significant and cherished tradition in the district, bringing together families, visitors, and the local community for a festive and cultural celebration.
