Marathon City School Participation: Pupils Logging More Strides Than Time

Slip, Stumble, Push Through: The Wiesbaden Student Marathon Defies Rain, Time, and Challenges. From Kindergarten to High School, Students Soar - and Teachers Keep Up.

Let 'em run. Let 'em laugh. Let 'em fall. Then, watch them pick themselves up, again and again. Over 2000 children and teens stormed the streets of Wiesbaden during the student run of the Ikano Bank City Marathon, braving the drizzle, the sludge, and the lack of a proper schedule. All for a chance to swap textbooks for a run alongside their friends.

Moderator Chris Scheler gathers the troops at the starting line. Before the race, a quick warm-up with Jennifer Braun, and then the countdown: ten, nine, eight... go! Class 1 sprints, class 10 jogs - each with their own pace. Young ones conquer 3 kilometers to the tennis courts, while the older ones head to the Sonnenberg. Teachers right in the middle. Some trotting, others cheering - on the 5-kilometer route.

One tumbles down. But stands back up for a photo, fast as can be. Wiesbaden's spirit lives on.

The Obermayr Europa School sent out more runners this year, their Erbenheim campus boasting eight additional classes in the race. A total of 700 Obermayr students participated, though none vied for the title of school with the most participants. Instead, awards were given to the youngest class, the oldest class, and the class with the most members. Post-race, everyone dug into pasta, fries, and pudding. Each pays their way, but everyone celebrates together.

Raincoats, pride, and spaghetti later, the student run soldiers on. Aiming for more participants, more sun, and maybe even a return of the timing next year.

And for the curious minds, the who's who, and the running enthusiasts:
