Maoist Rebel Slain, Three Soldiers Wounded in Firefight in Sukma
In the heart of Chhattisgarh, the Sukma district witnessed a significant event on July 29, 2025, as security forces engaged in an intense anti-Maoist operation in the Sukma-Dantewada forest border area.
The operation, involving the STF, CRPF, and District Reserve Guard (DRG), led to a fierce encounter with Maoist rebels. Regrettably, one unidentified male Maoist lost his life during the clash.
Three DRG personnel were injured in the encounter due to an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated by the Maoists. Despite the injuries, the jawans are currently stable and out of danger following their safe evacuation and treatment at higher medical centres.
The security forces are continuing their search operation in the forested area, with further details about the operation being withheld until the search party returns to their base camp for safety reasons.
This encounter is part of a broader intensified anti-Maoist action in the region. So far in 2025, 226 Maoists have been killed in Chhattisgarh, with 208 of those deaths occurring in the Bastar division, including Sukma. The security forces' efforts have resulted in the establishment of forward bases and improved infrastructure, restricting Maoist activities in remote stronghold areas.
However, some senior Maoist leaders remain at large and appear unwilling to surrender. On August 2, 2025, five Maoists were arrested with explosives in Sukma, indicating the continued presence of Maoists in the area.

- The ongoing anti-Maoist operation in the Sukma-Dantewada forest border area, which resulted in the death of a Maoist rebel, falls under the category of general news and politics, due to its impact on the region's security and ongoing war-and-conflicts.
- The continuous arrests of Maoists and the recovery of explosives, such as the recent incident in Sukma on August 2, 2025, also highlight crime-and-justice issues in the region, as the Maoist rebels continue to engage in illegal activities despite ongoing efforts by security forces.
