Manor Place Baths reopens as a free cultural and sports hub in South London
After nearly five decades, the historic Manor Place Baths in South London is set to reopen as a vibrant community hub. The Victorian bathhouse, originally a large swimming pool complex and later a boxing venue, will now house a free-to-visit attraction in collaboration with Nike and Palace Skateboards, opening on November 11 and operating six days a week.
The attraction will span three zones. The Park and The Cage, located where the men's swimming pool once stood, will feature a free-to-use skatepark and an underground football cage that can accommodate three-a-side games. The Front Room, the former main entrance, will serve as an art venue hosting workshops, pop-ups, and Nike clothing sales. Meanwhile, The Residency will offer creative studio spaces that rotate every nine months, providing a dynamic environment for artists and creatives.
Events planned include skate jams, women-only sessions, and other activities, ensuring there's something for everyone. The project was supported by Eddie Elvin, who played a significant role in transforming the historic building into this exciting new attraction.
The reopening of Manor Place Baths promises to revitalise the local community, offering free access to sports, arts, and creative spaces. With its unique zones and diverse events, it's set to become a thriving hub for South London's culture and creativity.
