Luc Holtz Takes Reins at SV Waldhof Mannheim

Luc Holtz, a renowned Luxembourgish football manager and former international player, has been appointed as the new coach for German club SV Waldhof Mannheim. The news was announced by the club on August 2025 [1][3].

Holtz, who is 56 years old, brings a wealth of experience to the third-division side, having spent approximately 15 years coaching his home country Luxembourg. Before leading the senior national team, he managed the Luxembourg U-21 national team from 2008 to 2010 [2].

Prior to his coaching career, Holtz was a midfielder and had a notable playing career, including roles as player/manager at Etzella Ettelbruck from 1999 to 2008. During this time, he helped the club achieve promotion to the top division and won the Luxembourg Cup in 2001 [1][2].

Holtz retired as a professional player at the end of the 2007/2008 season [1]. His coaching style at Waldhof Mannheim is expected to mirror the approach he applied with Luxembourg: a focus on ball possession combined with defensive solidity [3].

The former Bundesliga club from North Baden is now managed by Holtz, who succeeded Dominik Glawogger following his dismissal. Glawogger took over from Bernhard Trares as coach of SV Waldhof Mannheim in April [5].

In the first two league games of the current season, SV Waldhof Mannheim earned one point. The club finished 16th in the league last season, avoiding relegation [6].

Despite stepping down from his coaching position in Luxembourg, Holtz has not disclosed the reasons for his decision. However, he considers his time as national coach of Luxembourg to have been formative, both personally and professionally [7].

As Holtz begins a new chapter at SV Waldhof Mannheim, he is looking forward to the challenge ahead. The new coaching position is at a traditional club, and Holtz is eager to help the team progress in the German football landscape [8].
