Mannheim-based club Waldhof signs on Coach Holtz from Luxembourg's national team - Mannheim's club Waldhof recruits the Luxembourg national team's coach, Holtz.
After a tumultuous season that saw SV Waldhof Mannheim narrowly avoiding relegation, the North Baden-based third division football club has made a significant change in its coaching staff. Dominik Glawogger, who took over as coach from Bernhard Trares in April, has been replaced by Luc Holtz.
Holtz, a former midfielder, has had an impressive coaching career before joining SV Waldhof Mannheim. Prior to his appointment, he was the head coach of the Luxembourg senior national team for approximately 15 years, a role he left on Monday by mutual agreement. Before that, he began his coaching career in 1999 as a player-manager at Etzella Ettelbruck, where he led the team to promotion and won the Luxembourg Cup in 2001. After retiring as a player at the end of the 2007/2008 season, Holtz served as the coach of the Luxembourg U-21 national team before taking over the senior national team in 2010.
Mathias Schober, sports director of SV Waldhof Mannheim, believes that Holtz can develop teams and build structures. Gerhard Zuber, another sports director at the club, stated that the team had developed in the wrong direction under Glawogger. The first two league games of the season for SV Waldhof Mannheim resulted in one point, a performance that may have contributed to the decision to replace Glawogger with Holtz.
Holtz has signed a contract with SV Waldhof Mannheim, but the length of the contract was not disclosed. He views his time as national coach in Luxembourg as a formative phase and is eager to start a new chapter with SV Waldhof Mannheim. His goal with the club is to move them up to the 2nd Bundesliga as soon as possible.
SV Waldhof Mannheim, which is based in Mannheim, Germany, finished as the 16th-placed team last season. With the appointment of Luc Holtz as coach, the team hopes to turn their fortunes around and achieve a better position in the league.
