Manhattan businessman fatally gunned down
In a shocking turn of events, a mass shooting took place on July 28, 2025, inside an office building at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The incident, which claimed the lives of four individuals, including an NYPD officer, was carried out by 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura from Las Vegas.
Tamura, who was armed with a high-powered rifle and wearing body armor, targeted the offices of the National Football League (NFL), which has headquarters in the building. According to reports, he held a grudge against the NFL, blaming them for a traumatic brain injury he suffered and citing concerns about chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disease linked to repeated head trauma and commonly associated with football players.
The shooting began in the lobby, where Tamura opened fire on New York Police Department officer Didarul Islam, a woman, and a security guard. He then aimed towards the NFL offices but mistakenly took the elevator to the 33rd floor, where Rudin Management’s offices are located. There, he fatally shot another individual before taking his own life.
Among the victims was Wesley LePatner, an executive who served as CEO of the Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust (BREIT). LePatner, who joined Blackstone in 2014 after more than a decade at Goldman Sachs, was married to Evan LePatner and had two children. He was remembered as a "uniquely brilliant and modest leader and parent" by the Abraham Joshua Heschel School, where his child in seventh grade attended.
The NFL confirmed that one of its employees was seriously injured in the shooting, with league commissioner Roger Goodell stating that the employee is currently in stable condition. The Rudin family, which operates the real estate firm Rudin Management in the building, also confirmed that one of its employees was among those killed, but did not reveal their identity.
Law enforcement in Nevada informed authorities that Tamura had a "documented mental health history." Surveillance footage showed Tamura exiting his vehicle and entering 345 Park Avenue while carrying an M4 rifle.
This tragic event serves as a grim reminder of the senseless violence that can occur in our society. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by this tragic incident.
