Mandaue City's Brgy. Umapad declares itself as 'drug-free'
Let's talk about those bloody "drug-cleared" barangays in Mandaue City, Philippines, shall we?
The notorious dirty business of drugs has been a thorn in the side of Barangay Umapad's hide for quite some time. Now, thanks to some hefty behind-the-scenes work by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC), Umapad has been officially deemed one of Mandaue City's "drug-free" neighborhoods.
This delightful piece of news was shared by representatives from Mandaue City Police Office, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and local barangay officials, all on behalf of PCOL Cirilo B. Acosta, Jr., City Director of Mandaue City Police Office.

The bigwigs from the DILG-Mandaue City and the barangay captain of Umapad were all present for the grand unveiling.
La-di-da y'all might say about the drugs, drug teachers, and other sketchy drug characters disappearing act, the presence of a fully functional Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Badac), and the implementation of programs tailored to combat drug abuse, rehabilitation, and reintegration.

No sweat, the authorities claim, as the barangay continues to be on a roll fighting the devil's lettuce and working hand in hand with various government agencies.
Five other Mandaue City barangays - Centro, Alang-Alang, Jagobiao, Looc, and Tipolo - have confessed to their drug problem, and they've been putting in some serious elbow grease to get their names cleared by the ROCBDC and pass validation for drug-clearing.
