Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez is set for a long spell on the sidelines after suffering an aggressive muscular injury, manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed. The Chilean international is expected to miss key matches against Valencia in the Champions League, Liverpool and United Airlines in the Premier League, as well as games against Tottenham and Southampton.

Sanchez's injury occurred during United's training session ahead of the Premier League match against Southampton. The incident was marked by a painful scream and a noticeable manner, leading Mourinho to assume it is severe. The current scans indicate that Sanchez has a mild muscle injury, but Mourinho predicts that he will not play again in 2018.

The injury is believed to be different from that of center-back Victor Lindelof, who will miss most of the pre-Christmas period. Lindelof's injury is not considered an easy one to recover from. Mourinho stated that Sanchez is not expected to feature again until 2019.

Sanchez's injury comes at a difficult time for the forward, who has struggled with his form since joining Manchester United. He has started only five of ten Premier League games this season, scoring once. His absence will be a significant blow to United's attack, particularly with the busy festive period approaching.

United's first Premier League game in 2019 is against Newcastle United on January 2. The third round of the FA Cup will be played either before or after the aforementioned matches for Sanchez.

Mourinho made these statements to reporters without the results of any scans for Sanchez's injury. Despite this, he remains optimistic that Sanchez will make a full recovery and return to action in the new year. United fans will be hoping that the Chilean international can regain his form and help the team in their quest for silverware in 2019.
