Manchester United Seek to Improve Team Amid Summer Struggles

Manchester United are actively looking to bolster their squad ahead of the new season, as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 2023-24 campaign.

Ruben Amorim, the United manager, has expressed his desire to improve the team, stating that they are always on the hunt for opportunities to strengthen their roster.

One player who has struggled to find consistency since joining the club in July 2023 is goalkeeper Andre Onana. Despite preventing 6.7 goals according to Opta's expected goals on target (xGoT) model, Onana has conceded 90 goals during his two seasons at Old Trafford. He has kept 18 Premier League clean sheets and made 6 errors leading to shots, with 4 of those resulting in goals.

Despite Onana's struggles, Amorim has expressed satisfaction with the goalkeepers at his disposal, specifically mentioning Onana, Tom Heaton, and Altay Bayindir.

Amorim also confirmed that Bryan Mbeumo will play against Everton in their next Premier League Summer Series match on Sunday in Atlanta. The striker joined United last month but has yet to feature for the club. Amorim expressed excitement about seeing Mbeumo play and the impact he could have on the team.

United are currently linked with a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, who is seen as a future prospect to optimize United's squad for the late 2020s. United are in talks with Leipzig but have not yet made an official bid for the 22-year-old forward.

United are also being linked with a move for Emiliano Martinez and Gianluigi Donnarumma, but there are no recent credible reports linking the club with transfer moves for these two goalkeepers in the 2025 window. United's goalkeeper targets this summer have not prominently featured Martinez or Donnarumma, with more attention given to other transfer priorities.

Manchester United have already made some moves in the transfer market, signing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and 18-year-old defender Diego Luna. However, the team's struggles last season, finishing 15th in the Premier League and failing to have any player finish with double-digit goals in the league, have highlighted the need for further reinforcements.

United have started the Premier League Summer Series on a positive note, winning both of their matches so far. They currently sit at the top of the table, needing only one point to win the pre-season tournament. United will face Everton in their next match on Sunday in Atlanta.

AmidManchester United's quest to enhance their team amid summer struggles, manager Ruben Amorim has showcased interest in European leagues, particularly seeking improvements in the squad's performance in the Premier League, being mindful of the team's underwhelming 2023-24 season. Furthermore, in their pursuit to fortify the goalkeeping position, United are considering potential signings like Benjamin Sesko, who could optimize the squad for the late 2020s.
