Manchester United's Ruben Amorim faces uncertainty over his participation in the upcoming match against Manchester City, as his health concerns escalate.
Manchester United are preparing for a tough clash against Manchester City in the Premier League, aiming for consecutive victories. The Red Devils have had a mixed start to the season, with manager Ruben Amorim under pressure to improve their performance after spending £200 million on attackers during the summer transfer window.
One area of concern for Amorim is the right-back position, with Diogo Dalot's availability uncertain. Dalot, who has featured in all of United's Premier League games so far, came off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Fulham and has withdrawn from the Portuguese national team due to muscle discomfort.
If Dalot is unavailable, Amad Diallo could step in. The Ivorian footballer, who usually plays as a winger or attacking midfielder, has shown versatility that could allow him to cover the right-back spot. Diallo has recently played as a right winger and wingback, and while he is more attacking than Dalot, he could provide the necessary cover in defense.
Diallo played the full 90 minutes in United's Carabao Cup exit against Grimsby Town and started the season opener against Arsenal. He also played the entire game against Burnley before the September international break. However, he will face a tough test against Manchester City's wide attackers if called upon to replace Dalot.
Meanwhile, United's attacking prowess was on display in their last Premier League game against Burnley, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a stoppage time penalty to secure a 3-2 victory. Fernandes' goal came after Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho had put United in a commanding 2-0 lead, only for Burnley to fight back and equalize.
However, United's struggles throughout much of 2025 remain a concern for Amorim, who will be hoping for a positive result against Pep Guardiola's Man City in less than two weeks. The match against City will be United's biggest test so far this season, and Amorim will be looking to his players to rise to the occasion and secure a crucial victory.
