Fired Manchester United Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Praises Key Players

Remember when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge of Manchester United? The Norwegian manager recently revealed that only three players who are still at the club have spoken to him since his departure in November 2021.

Initially appointed caretaker manager in December 2018, Solskjaer went on to win 92 of his 168 matches in the dugout. Though the identities of these talkative trio remain a mystery, Solskjaer shared his appreciation for their leadership and dedication.

One player who captained his team under Solskjaer is Harry Maguire. "For me, Harry has always been a leader and a fighter," he said, speaking after United's win over Athletic Bilbao. "I was never in doubt when I signed him. He walked in the door he would be captain for us."

Another captain he spoke of fondly is Bruno Fernandes. "The two of them are top human beings," Solskjaer gushed. "I was so happy for them last night."

The third member of this mysterious club social circle is likely Victor Lindelof, given he plays alongside them regularly.

All three were integral parts of Solskjaer's side, with only Rashford featuring more times than Maguire and Lindelof. The pair made a combined 250 appearances under their former manager, with Lindelof crowned the club's captain in 2020 following Ashley Young's departure.

While details about the three remain scarce, Solskjaer also praised the efforts of Scott McTominay and Fred during his time at United. However, both have since moved on. McTominay was sold to Napoli last summer, while Fred now dons the colors of Turkish side Fenerbahce.

With the new managerial era in full swing, Solskjaer finds himself on the other side of the football world, having taken over as Beşiktaş boss in January. Fred could line up against his former manager this Sunday when his current side hosts Besiktas.

Though relationships between former teammates and coaches might ebb and flow, there's no doubt Solskjaer holds a special place in his heart for the Manchester United men who stood by him.
