Manchester United's Carrington training ground undergoes £50 million renovation
Manchester United Unveils Redesigned Carrington Training Complex
Manchester United has revealed its renovated Carrington Training Complex, a state-of-the-art facility designed to foster excellence, recovery, and innovation. The £50 million redevelopment positions Carrington as a high-performance training center, integrating cutting-edge fitness, medical, recovery, and analytical technology all under one roof.
The new complex boasts a variety of unique features. A high-altitude training room, equipped with multiple stationary bikes and rowing machines, can adjust temperature, humidity, and other conditions to simulate different environments, supporting advanced fitness and endurance training.
A passive recovery room offers individual sleeping pods with audio-visual connections, dry floatation tanks, and hyperbaric oxygen chambers to speed recovery. Advanced medical and diagnostic facilities include CT, MRI, DEXA scanners, and a full-body scanner that analyses player body composition in just seven minutes, enhancing injury prevention and rehabilitation.
Upgraded cryotherapy chambers and transformed steam room and sauna support and accelerate player recovery. The first-team changing room has been expanded, featuring integrated touchscreens at each player’s station to review daily routines, alongside innovative "smart urinals" to monitor hydration levels and optimize fluid intake.
The building promotes openness and connectivity with large windows, natural light, and open workspaces designed in collaboration with players and staff. A players' lounge with an outdoor terrace overlooking the training pitches and expansive communal and dining areas focused on nutrition and team cohesion complete the facility.
A media room and conference facilities have been included for press briefings and video production, while open-plan offices and briefing rooms support coaching, analysis, and backroom staff collaboration. The renovation was led by Foster + Partners under Lord Norman Foster and financed by United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Collette Roche, who led the redevelopment project, consulted with players such as Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Tom Heaton, Diogo Dalot, and others to determine the needs and preferences of the players. Diogo Dalot, a United defender, praised the redevelopment, stating it brings the club to a level it deserves.
The renovated men's team building houses a significant number of staff from Old Trafford. The players' dining lounge features floor-to-ceiling windows, a pool table, and the F1 simulator. The menu on Friday included grilled salmon, sushi, and smoothie bowls. The redeveloped facility aims to provide a positive environment for the players and staff, with everything they need under one roof.
The redevelopment of the men's team building follows the construction of a £10 million building for the women's first team and men's academy in 2024. Ratcliffe reached an agreement to become co-owner in late 2023 and made a significant investment in the facility's upgrade.
Manchester United's training base underwent a significant transformation, positioning it as a leading training center in the football world. The renovated Carrington Training Complex will be the heart of the club as the Premier League season kicks off on August 17, with Manchester United hosting Arsenal in their season opener.
Football is now even more integrated into the heart of Manchester United, as the Premier League season approaches. The renovated Carrington Training Complex, designed to foster excellence and recovery, has become a high-performance training center for European-leagues teams, including Manchester United. The facility houses advanced fitness, medical, recovery, and analytical technology, aiming to support the likes of the Premier League's Manchester United in reaching their peak performance.
