Manchester United Sign Slovenia Forward Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United have bolstered their attack ahead of the new season with the signing of Slovenia forward Benjamin Sesko. The 21-year-old joins the Red Devils from RB Leipzig, where he established himself as a prolific goalscorer over two seasons.

Sesko, who stands at 6 feet 3 inches, has a strong track record of goal-scoring feats and notable achievements. He began his career at NK Krsko before moving to NK Domžale's U-17 side, and then signed with Red Bull Salzburg in 2019 for €2.5 million. Sesko spent time with Salzburg's reserve team, FC Liefering, where he scored 22 goals in 44 games in Austria's second division.

He made his first-team debut for Salzburg in January 2021, helping the club win three Austrian Bundesliga titles and one Austrian Cup. In the 2022/23 season, he scored 16 goals and provided 3 assists in 37 games for Salzburg's first team. Sesko then transferred to RB Leipzig for €24 million, where he scored 39 goals in 87 appearances and achieved the rare feat of scoring in seven consecutive Bundesliga matches since the 1982/83 season.

Internationally, Sesko progressed through Slovenia's youth teams and became the youngest player to appear for the senior national team in 2021 at age 18. He also became Slovenia's youngest ever goalscorer in October 2021.

Sesko has signed a five-year contract with Manchester United, and United paid Leipzig a fee that could reach 85 million euros ($99 million) for the young striker. Sesko is the third forward United have signed this offseason.

United manager Ruben Amorim has prioritized revamping his attack ahead of his first full season in charge at Old Trafford. United fell to a club-record 18 losses in the Premier League era and their lowest points total of 42 last season, and only four teams scored fewer goals than United in the top flight. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee scored just 18 goals between them in all competitions last season for Manchester United.

Sesko's move to Manchester United marks a new chapter in his career, and he has expressed his excitement about the future at the club. He mentioned that the project at Manchester United has everything in place for the team to continue growing and competing for major trophies soon. Jason Wilcox, United's director of football, has stated that Sesko possesses a rare combination of electrifying pace and the ability to physically dominate defenders. Sesko has been compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to their shared height and flashes of technical skill.

In addition to Sesko, United have reportedly shown interest in Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres, and Ollie Watkins. Cunha and Mbeumo, who are tried and tested in the Premier League, are also options for United as they look to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season. Sesko has yet to prove himself in England, but his impressive track record suggests that he has the potential to make a significant impact at Manchester United.
