Manchester United secures Benjamin Sesko, star striker, in an €85 million transfer from RB Leipzig
Manchester United have bolstered their attack with the acquisition of Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to €85 million. The 19-year-old forward has signed a five-year contract, keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2030.
The transfer, which includes add-ons, marks a significant investment by Manchester United as they aim to strengthen their attack under manager Ruben Amorim. Sesko's arrival takes United's summer spending to around £214 million (€247 million) after the signings of Matheus Cunha, Diego León, and Bryan Mbeumo.
Sesko began his professional career with Domzale in his native Slovenia before moving to RB Salzburg as a teenager. He then spent two seasons on loan at Liefering, Salzburg's second-tier team, scoring 22 goals in 44 appearances. Last season, he made a permanent move to Leipzig and scored 13 times in the Bundesliga, making him the highest-scoring player under 23 in Europe’s top five leagues over the past two seasons.
Jason Wilcox, United's director of football, has praised Sesko, describing him as a player with a rare combination of electrifying pace and physical dominance, making him one of the most exceptional young talents in world football. Sesko is expected to be the fulcrum of Amorim's attacking trident, alongside Cunha and Mbeumo.
The deal also includes a sell-on clause favoring Leipzig, entitling them to a percentage of any future transfer fee. Furthermore, a friendly match is to be organized between Manchester United and RB Leipzig as part of the agreement.
However, Sesko's move to Old Trafford came at the expense of a potential deal with Newcastle United, who had been among his summer transfer targets. Newcastle's manager, Eddie Howe, has admitted that the Isak situation has unsettled the squad, and the club's failure to sign potential players, including Sesko, has led to speculation about the Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund's level of engagement.
With Sesko passing his medical at Old Trafford on Saturday morning, he is set to become Ruben Amorim's fourth major signing of the summer, adding a promising young talent to Manchester United's squad.

The significant investment in Benjamin Sesko by Manchester United signifies their intent to bolster their attack, with the young Slovenian striker set to join the Premier League club from RB Leipzig. Sesko's prolific goalscoring record in European leagues, particularly during his time at Leipzig, makes him an attractive addition to United's sports-analysis reports.
