Rasmus Højlund's Future Away from Manchester United

Rasmus Højlund's time at Manchester United may be coming to an end, with a potential move to Napoli on the horizon. The Danish striker has reportedly agreed to join Napoli on a season-long loan, with a planned permanent transfer next summer [1][2][3].

This shift in transfer plans comes after AC Milan stepped back from pursuing Højlund due to disagreements over terms. Milan instead opted for Victor Boniface on loan [2][5]. Napoli, who are in need of a striker following Romelu Lukaku's injury, have emerged as the front-runners for Højlund's signature [2][3].

The move to Napoli could offer Højlund regular minutes and the opportunity to improve his game, as he has not been central to coach Ruben Amorim's plans for the upcoming season. Manchester United are keen to move him on, especially after signing Benjamin Šeško [1][2][5].

Højlund, who joined Manchester United in 2023 for a fee of €77.8 million (£67m), has made 95 appearances for the club across two seasons. However, only 14 of his goals were scored in the Premier League, with a total of 26 goals in all competitions [4].

Other clubs such as Fulham and RB Leipzig have shown interest, but Napoli's offer and urgency place them at the front of the race [1][3]. Højlund himself reportedly wants any loan deal to come with an obligation to buy to feel confident about his future [3].

If the transfer to Napoli materializes, it would initially be a loan worth around €6m. A successful stint at Napoli could potentially position Højlund to return to England and challenge Benjamin Sesko and other strikers for a starting spot at Manchester United [4].

The deal is reported by Italian outlet Calciomercato, with a buy option of €45m secured as part of the proposed deal [1][5]. Transfermarkt currently values Højlund at €35m [6].

In a recent report, Højlund expressed a desire to stay at Manchester United, despite not being central to Amorim's plans [7]. However, it seems that his future lies elsewhere, with Napoli appearing to be the most likely destination.
