Manchester United and RB Leverkusen have reached a consensus regarding the transfer of forward Patrik Sesko.
Manchester United have secured the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €85 million, according to transfer experts Fabrizio Romano and Florian Plettenberg. The Slovenian striker, who had been favoured a move to Old Trafford over Newcastle United, has signed a contract that will extend until 2030.
Sesko's preference for United was driven by the club's historic stature, compelling future plans, and positive club culture. The young striker was impressed by the structured project presented by Manchester United and the opportunity to work under Ruben Amorim.
The move comes at a time when neither Manchester United nor RB Leipzig will be participating in international competitions next season. For Leipzig, the transfer of Sesko will help bring in the necessary funds, as they look to offload players like Xavi Simons, whose transfer to Chelsea FC is currently stalled.
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC's Harvey Elliott is reportedly the focus of RB Leipzig's attention, with global football boss Jürgen Klopp said to be closely involved in the negotiations. However, Elliott's prospects at Liverpool FC are limited, making a move to Leipzig a possible option.
On the domestic front, Newcastle United was also in contention for Sesko's transfer, but the striker's ambition to develop under a promising setup and his admiration for Manchester United's history, positive energy, and family-like atmosphere made Old Trafford his favoured destination.
Elsewhere, dpa reports on the ongoing negotiations for Harvey Elliott, with at least €80 million required for his transfer. However, the move cannot be made until RB sorts out further departures, particularly Xavi Simons.
