Manchester United Secures Benjamin Sesko in €85 Million Transfer Deal

Benjamin Sesko, the Slovenian international striker, has joined Manchester United in a significant transfer worth around €85 million. The deal, which includes achievable add-ons, was confirmed on August 9, 2025, and sees Sesko signing a five-year contract until June 2030.

Sesko, who was just 22 years old at the time of the transfer, was RB Leipzig's leading young goal-scorer last season, netting 21 goals and providing 6 assists. His impressive performances under 23 years of age made him the top scorer in Europe’s top five leagues over the past two seasons.

The transfer fee of €76.5 million, plus €8.5 million in achievable add-ons, represents a substantial sum for Leipzig. However, the club has secured a sell-on clause, entitling them to a percentage of any future transfer fee.

Sesko's arrival at Old Trafford follows other summer signings, pushing United's transfer spending beyond £200 million in 2025. The club's manager, Ruben Amorim, is expected to utilise Sesko's electrifying pace and physical presence to lead the attack.

For Leipzig, the loss of Sesko will impact their attacking options. However, the club is likely to engage in recruiting or promoting other attacking talents to fill the void left by Sesko.

The transfer deal between RB Leipzig and Manchester United marks a strategic move for both clubs. For Manchester United, Sesko brings a combination of youth, proven goal-scoring, and potential to grow into a world-class forward, which strategically aligns with the club’s goal to return to title-contending form. For Leipzig, the transfer fee offers significant funds to reinvest.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig is reportedly interested in signing Harvey Elliott from Liverpool FC, subject to further departures. Elliott, who was recently named the best player of the U21 EM, is currently facing limited perspective at Liverpool. Jürgen Klopp, RB's Global Football Boss, was instrumental in bringing Elliott to Liverpool and is involved in the negotiations.

On the other hand, Xavi Simons' transfer to FC Chelsea is currently stalled, with the deal dependent on the club generating revenues. Simons is said to bring in the necessary millions for RB Leipzig.

Sesko's exceptional goal-scoring abilities in European leagues, particularly in the Premier League, are expected to bolster Manchester United's attack as they aim to regain their title-contending form. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig may use the substantial transfer fee received from Sesko's sale to invest in talent, potentially recruiting Harvey Elliott from Liverpool FC or relying on internal promotions to fill the attacking gap left by Sesko.
