Manchester United and RB Leipsig have reached an agreement on the transfer of striker Matej Sesko.
Manchester United have announced the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a major transfer deal worth around €85 million. The Slovenian forward has put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2030.
The deal, which includes bonuses and add-ons, was confirmed by transfer experts Florian Plettenberg and Fabrizio Romano. According to reports, the clubs have reached an agreement, and Sesko has been given permission to travel to England for a medical check.
Sesko's move to Manchester United was a preferred choice for the striker, despite interest from other clubs like Newcastle United. The 22-year-old forward was not included in RB's squad for the friendly match against Atalanta Bergamo, signalling his imminent departure.
Sesko's impressive recent stats, including 21 goals in 45 appearances for Leipzig last season, make him a valuable addition to Manchester United's rebuilding project under manager Ruben Amorim. The club views him as a key player, with a strong supporting squad to create chances around him.
Meanwhile, RB is reportedly in advanced negotiations for the signing of Harvey Elliott from Liverpool FC. However, a signing for Elliott can only be made once RB has sorted out further departures, such as the potential transfer of Xavi Simons, who is expected to bring in the required millions.
Simons, who was made a professional by Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool, is currently valued at at least €80 million. However, his transfer to Chelsea FC is currently on hold, and the deal is yet to be confirmed.
The transfer for Sesko includes a sell-on clause, entitling Leipzig to a percentage of any future transfer fee. This reflects Manchester United's significant investment in the young forward, who is considered one of Europe's most promising strikers.
As part of the transfer agreement, a friendly match between Manchester United and RB Leipzig is planned. This will not only serve as a farewell for Sesko but also a chance for both clubs to assess their squads ahead of the new season.
