Manchester United and Everton End in a Draw: Odd Incident Leads to Own Goal Scoring

Everton put up a commendable performance against Manchester United in the Premier League Summer Series, ultimately securing a 2-2 draw at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The match was a significant improvement from Everton's previous performances against Bournemouth and West Ham.

The turning point of the game came just before half-time, when Iliman Ndiaye scored an emphatic equaliser to level the match at 1-1. His goal, a cool volley from Idrissa Gueye's pinpoint cross, not only demonstrated Ndiaye's attacking threat but also his ability to respond under pressure.

Ndiaye's goal proved crucial in motivating Everton and maintaining their momentum. They later secured another equaliser via an own goal, marking Everton's first point in the tournament.

Beyond the goal, Ndiaye's involvement in physical clashes and active presence in midfield battles contributed to Everton's resilience and competitive comeback during the match. He contested a game-high 20 duels, winning 12 of them. Ndiaye also attempted and completed the most dribbles in the match (eight and four respectively).

David Moyes, Everton's manager, expressed his pleasure with Ndiaye's performance and noted that it offers encouraging signs ahead of the Premier League campaign. Despite his frustration over Everton's struggles in the transfer market and on the pitch, specifically in attack, Moyes found a bright spot in Ndiaye's performance.

The match saw a total of 13 shots from United, with no additional goals scored. Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty for United after James Tarkowski was adjudged to have fouled Amad Diallo. Mason Mount, a United substitute, scored a goal on the turn in the 69th minute. However, United's momentum was halted when Diallo and Heaven inadvertently put the ball into their own net, making it 3-2 for Everton.

Jordan Pickford denied Patrick Dorgu a goal late in the match, ensuring Everton's draw. Despite United going into the match with the knowledge that they would win the tournament if they avoided defeat by less than a two-goal margin, Everton's improved display and Ndiaye's stellar performance served as a reminder of the challenges they may face in the upcoming season.

Unfortunately for Everton, their momentum was halted by a series of changes, with Jake O'Brien missing a great early chance for Everton, hitting the woodwork after Altay Bayindir palmed James Garner's long-range free-kick into his path. Despite this, Everton's performance against Manchester United offers a promising sign for the team as they prepare for the Premier League season ahead.
